So, I decided to try epsxe in Vista and I found out that none of the plugins like it. Now, I'm not saying "Go and fix it" but I was wondering if there was any option to go with besides putting XP back. Now, I've tried compatibility settings, and while putting it to Windows 98/2000 got the speed up from 4-8 fps, I can't really use the emulator. And the WGL extensions are missing, so I'm assuming this is nvidia's fault (fault second to Vista I mean). Is there some sort of work around or do I have to wait for nvidia to get some update to fix Open Gl. I forgot to mention that the D3D drivers don't fare any better than the Open GL ones.

Are you using NVIDIA drivers? Microsoft does not properly support OpenGL, so I recommend to install drivers from NVIDIA site.

I'm "Technically" using nvidia drivers. I'm using the Geforce 6600 Go (It's a decent card, it's never given me any problems with Pete's plugins and Open GL 2 plugins run great on it), so while the drivers are nvidia's, I have to use a modified inf. But that's not the problem, nvidia still needs to fix Open GL on vista. If I'm right, the plugin is getting wrapped around Direct X and downgrading Open Gl to 1.4. Oh well, guess I have to wait for nvidia to fix Open GL, unless there's some kind of hack out there.

So those microsoft bastards made their freakin' OpenGL emulation. They deserve to burn in hell. I really want to live to the day when microsoft dies.

Yes they did emulate Open GL now, it gets interpreted into Direct X, so these plugins are essentially useless in Vista, so no one upgrade unless you have an ATI card (I was snooping around the net and it appears ATI fixed the Open GL problem).

I have Vista and Ati X1950Pro is there any chance to use ePSXe. None of Pete's gpu plugins work correctly there are a lot of glitches. By the way I have the latest ati driver of course.

ATI never wrote good OpenGL drivers (especially for Vista). But I have 2 news:
The good news is that AMD finally decided to write good drivers and even do it for Linux (!!!)
The bad news is AMD still decides what to do with OpenGL. If they write it emulated through Direct3D don't wait good performance.

By the way, shingouki2, NVIDIA writes OpenGL drivers without any emulation - they created a library to interact with video drivers directly without Direct3D.

So I should buy an Nvidia card.
I bought this card 3 months ago.
Maybe it is the fastes AGP card for not too much money. I should change my hole system but it is a matter of money. Other solution I use Windows XP for emulation. It is very disappointing that Ati always have compatiblity problems.

no, they didn't

Opengl in Vista IS OPENGL, its a fully working Opengl 2.0 ICD, the rumour that it is emulated was a load of crap that the inquirer started.

the problem is that Epsxe can't access its registry entries in vista, so you need to run it as admin (right click on the app and click run as)
