eurovision.tv: Welcome, Vanilla Ninja. Normally we can see you on MTV or other music channels. How come you’re entering Eurovision?

Vanilla Ninja: It’s very good. We are very excited about going on stage.

eurovision.tv: You are this year’s Swiss entry. What is your connection to Switzerland?

Vanilla Ninja: Well, there is no direct link between us and Switzerland. It’s a country where we have given a lot of concerts and it has become our second home. Representing Switzerland is a task we’re taking very seriously.

eurovision.tv: You are a multi-cultural band – Estonians with a German author and a German composer singing for Switzerland.

Vanilla Ninja: Yes, that’s right. We like to mix things and get something cool out of it.

eurovision.tv: Normally you play to a young audience ...

Vanilla Ninja: No, no, that’s not true. We have a diverse audience. Everyone comes to our concerts and listens to our music. Almost half of our audience are in their 30s, 40s or even older. Our music has a lot of 80s influences in it which attracts an older audience.

eurovision.tv: How much of a say do you have in the songs that you perform?

Vanilla Ninja: We closely work together with our producer and sometimes we write the lyrics ourselves. It’s team work because we wouldn’t sing a song that we didn’t like.

eurovision.tv: What does ‘Cool Vibes’ mean to you?

Vanilla Ninja: Everything! It’s one of our favourite songs on our latest album, a very powerful track.

eurovision.tv: Here’s a question concerning the name of your band: where does Vanilla Ninja come from?

Vanilla Ninja: It’s a mix of Vanilla which stands for the girls in us and Ninja for the rock influence. Behind sweetness there are four tough characters, you know. We wouldn’t be standing here if we were softies.

eurovision.tv: Come on, girls – any personal experiences that you would like to share with our readers?

Vanilla Ninja: We don’t have any secrets. And if we do, our secrets will stay as secrets.
