The guide how to use this board

This thread is supposed to give you a little help in the usage of our international Heng Long-Forum. It will be updated by the time from me. I will explain here how to:

1. use the main page
2. use this board / open a thread or a category
3. register (free)
4. create a new thread
5. reply to a thread
6. add links & pictures
7. contact a user ( personal message, only accessable by the user you want to contact)
8. use your own PM-System

First, I have to notice that this is our first attempt to make this forum admittable to the english-speaking people. My English is quite not perfect, but you should easily understand what I mean. If not, feel free to ask me. We will add in this thread some articles, but this will need its time. You can still feel free to look around, we have our own galleries of modified tanks, give faq’s how to build and modify it (equal if you want to change electronical components or the look of the tank). We don’t only have Heng Long’s here, Bandai, Tamiya, WSN and Co. are welcome, too. And of course we have some scratch-build tanks here like several halftracks (251 etc.). If you have technical problems like break-downs, broken tracks or malfunctions of the electronics, we will try to help you. When have become a registered member of our forum you will be able to post your own threads and may reply to others. Unless you’re not registered, you only can look around the board. The registration is free, of course. I will add a post how to register soon.
If you have questions how to modify a tank etc, feel free to post it into the “English spoken board”. We will attempt to answer as quickly as possible. If you like to introduce your own RC-tank to us, you can create a new thread with some pictures of you tank. How to do this, I will explain later.
So let’s start:

1. the usage of the main-page
On the top of our page you should see right below the picture these buttons:
“Forum” “News” “Mitglieder” “PM” “Profil“ „Suche“ and „Logout“ . “Forum“ is our main page (including the categories and the threads etc). “News” should explain itself. “Mitglieder” means “members” where you can see all our members (beginning from the latest). “PM” is our Personal Message System which I will explain later. “Profil” is your own profile (only when you’re a registered member!), you can change it at anytime you want to. “Suche” stands for “search”; we have an own searchmachine. You can search threads and posts for keywords you’d typed-in. “Logout”…are you nuts? Why do you want to leave?? Don’t you like us??

2. how use this board / open a thread or a category
You can open a category / and / or thread simply by just clicking onto it with your left mouse-button. If you have opened a category ( on the main page), a sub-category will open and you can see all our threads that have been posted. You can now open a thread by clicking onto it. Most of our threads contain several posts of different users, and due to the limitation of space on one page, a thread could contain several sub-pages. This is indicated by the number (in brackets) right beside the name of the thread.

3. how to register
How to register

Directly under the picture at the top of our forum you can see this: “Hier gehts zur Registrierung”. Click onto it, and a new page will be loaded. Please read the board-rules carefully!

Now you should see this:

your signature (will be added at the bottom of any post)
Um automatisierte Anmeldungen zu vermeiden, geben Sie bitte den Text, den Sie in dem Bild sehen, in das Formularfeld ein. Cookies müssen aktiviert sein! Es werden keine Ziffern verwendet.
AOL-User: Bei Problemen benutzen Sie bitte den InternetExplorer.
Please re-enter the text in the box to your right. When using AOL, please use your internet-explorer for your registration!

Please note that all fields with * have to be filled out!

When you’re finished, please click on the button “Absenden”.

That’s all! Now you can answer to any threads or you can post your own. When you have registered, you need to login once. You will receive a unique password that will be sent to the email-adress you entered during your registration. Please click at “Member login” and enter your user-name and your password. Have fun!


4. how to create a new thread
First, you have to go back to the main folder of the “English spoken board”. To the right, you can see a grapic of a Tiger I with this text below: “neues Thema”. When you click onto it, a new screen will open. I will now explain what you have to do:
“Thema” : You have to give your thread a name, for example: “my smoking-device won’t work” etc.
“ Anhang / Nur für Moderatoren” : this is not relevant for you.
“Beitragicon” : If you click at one of these icons to your right, this icon will be visible with your thread. For example, if you have a question, you can click at the “?”-icon. This it not necessary, you don’t have to use a icon for your thread.
“Beitrag” : Now you can type your article you want to post. Right below this field, you can see several animated smilies. You can add these fellows to your text by simply clicking onto them. Just try it out. When you have clicked onto one of them, a text (within brackets) will appear. Please don’t change, modify or delete this text. If you do, the icon won’t appear in your thread later. “Schriftgröße / Schriftfarbe” : You can change the color and the size of your text.

“Umfrage erstellen” : If you want to make a poll, click onto it.
“Optionen / Email Benachrichtigung” : You receive an email when someone replies to your thread when you activate this field.
“Absenden” : When you think your thread is complete, click onto this and your thread will be posted in the forum.
“Vorschau” : If you want to see how your thread would look like, you could use the preview-function.

5. how to reply to a thread
If you want to reply to a thread, you can click onto this Tiger-icon to your right: “Antworten”, right beside the Tiger-icon with “Neues Thema”. A new screen will open and you can type-in your comment/question etc. You have the same possibilities to edit your post as mentioned above in the Chapter “how to create a new thread”.

6. how to add links & pictures

Note: Your images, icons and links will only appear either in the preview or in your thread later, and not while you are writing your thread. If your image or so won’t be visible in your preview, you have made a fault.

When creating a text, you can add pictures and / or links you want to share with us. You should see some buttons under these 3 buttons: bold, italic & underlined, right beside “Beitrag”. Under “Bold”, you can see “URL”. By clicking onto the button, a new window appears. Now please enter the link you want to add to your text, for example: <a href="http://www.ebay.de/…" target=new>www.ebay.de/…</a> etc. Click onto “OK” when you’re finished or onto “Abbrechen” if you want to cancel it. When you have clicked onto OK, a new small window will appear and summons you to give your link a name. Click onto OK, and your link will appear in your thread (within brackets). For example: ebay. <a href="http://www.ebay.com" target=new>www.ebay.com</a> is the link, and ebay is the name of the link which will appear in your thread.

Under “Italic” you can see the button “Image”. First, I have to say that our server is not capable of hosting images. You need to have your own external webspace when you want to add images to you thread. For example, you can use AOL Hometown. Please note the complete path where you have saved your image onto, for example: hometown.aol.de/WdyWdpckr5/Logo_HL.jpg
Now click onto the button “Image” and a new small window should appear where you can enter the path where your image was uploaded to. Click onto “OK” and you’re done.

Under “underlined” you can see the button “eMail” where you could add a eMail-address.

7. how to contact a user
If you wish to send a specific member a message, you can use the PM (personal message)-System of our board. To do this, you have to left-click onto the name of the member you want to contact. A new window will open where you can see his warrant of apprehension. Note: some users don’t like to to fill this out, so don’t wonder when you don’t see anything. But you can contact him anyway. Click onto the text “Nachricht senden” and a new window will open. Under “Titel” you can give your message a headline. Click onto “Senden” and your message will be sent. When you click into the field “PM abspeichern”, the message will also be saved to your own PM-Folder and you may re-view what you have written.

8. how to use your own PM
You can open your PM-System by clicking onto the PM right on the top of our main page. (Under the image).
Note: If you have received a new PM, (neue Nachricht) will appear right beside of it (colored in red).
On your left, you can see “Menü”, and below of it, “Eingang” und “Ausgang”. When you click onto “Eingang”, you can read all the messages you have received. “Ausgang” means that you can read the messages you have sent to other members (only if you’d saved them before!).
Note: Messages will be deleted automatically after 30 days when you have already read them, otherwise they will be deleted after 90 days.
To the right, at the bottom, you can see three icons: “Keine”, “Alle” and “Löschen”. When you click onto “Alle”, all mails in your folder will be marked. Instead, when clicking onto “Keine”, the marks will be erased. “”Löschen” means that all the marked messages will be erased. Of course, you can manually mark a specific message you want to delete.
