Usually audio control panel (installed along with audio drivers) allows stereo-to-surround expansion. In Linux use alsa-plugins-upmix.

Yes, I have it and it is working, but not in emulation.

I think the only PS that has that is the PS3. If I'm correct, the PSX has a max output channels of 2 (stereo). Thus, I don't see much of a point to provide such "upmix" on the plugin.

As The_Source said, most 2.0+ SPUs nowdays has a "upmix" features by driver and/or its control panel. For example, with Sound Blaster Live! (5.1) or newer, CMSS is available. (upmix/dowmix ... feature)

Under Windows at least, Pete's SPU plugins provides sound in mono/stereo. Therefore, the CMSS previously mentioned, works with the output sound from the emulator.

If using Linux, there's probably something similar available.

PS2 supports Dolby Pro Logic 2, which encodes a 5.1 signal across stereo cabling, when used with a dolby pro logic 2 decoder the full 5.1 is output. it also provides dolby digtal ex over the fiberoptic output port, but not all games support this (FFX2 being the only 1 i know of)

How ever, there are no PSX games made that support DPLII

Soundblaster Live, and Live 5.1 only support CMSS when using the Creative play center, CMSS Via eax is supported only on the Soundblaster Live 24bit, Audigy and later sound cards.
