The flag of Uruguay has nine alternative strips of white and blue on it with a picture of sun on the upper left hand corner. The current national flag of Uruguay is officially in effect since July, 1830. The “Sun of May” present of the flag is a national emblem of Uruguay which is in use from the 19 th century. The design of the flag has significant resemblance to the ‘Stars and Stripe' of United States. The nine stripes on the flag of Uruguay stand for the nine counties which were there during the time of independence. The color blue and white on the flag are similar to that of the flag of Argentina.
