Hello everyone!

I don't know much about shaders, but would it be possible to create a noise/film grain like shader? I'd use it for Silent Hill.

Should be possible; I don't know much about noise filters though.. what do you want it to be like? Patterned, or random? Changing every frame?

Hmm, did you mean like one of those old WW2 recordings? Might be doable, but it would be slow.

I mean the effect that Silent Hill 2 & 3 do (4 too, but to a lesser extent), making the graphics all grainy. Manhunt too. I guess it should be random and change every frame.

Hmm, well I've never played any of those games, but I've got an idea of what it would look like. Problem is, I'll need seeds for a rand() function, which means I need a value that changes every frame, at random.. dunno if OGL2 supplies any, but I'll have a look.

Well, I had a look but unfortunately I don't think there's anything I can use. I'll think about it some more to see if I can come up with anything useable - right now the best I can do is pseudo-random noise when you're moving; it wouldn't change while you're standing still.

I did notice something that would come in very handy if I knew how to use it (if I can). Guest, do you know if we can use the following?

Code:
1:
2:
3:
4:
5:
6:
7:

OpenSceneGraph Preset Uniforms
as of OSG 1.0
int osg_FrameNumber;
float osg_FrameTime;
float osg_DeltaFrameTime;
mat4 osg_ViewMatrix;
mat4 osg_ViewMatrixInverse;

I thought there was an ATI Smart Shader doing exactly what he wants (I'm not sure, though - got an nVidia card meanwhile...).

I still don't know if you can use such a feature on nVidia cards.

Perhaps someone can translate these shaders for OGL2?

Also, I don't think it has to be really random, but one should not notice patterns.

I would use a video clip in the background.
And you can combine it with a coord/color environment values at current position.
Guess to few folks have a TV tunner or vivo for even brighter solutions.

If we can use the following? Dont ask me. Use it or leave it.

A videoclip, huh? Can we do that in the current implementation?
