Hi there. VERY GOOD work, Pete. Congratulations! The only thing that disturbs me is the Very High Internal X Resolution in OpenGL2 plug-in. My gfx card is Radeon Mobility 9700 128 MB. When I set the internal X resolution to very high it always crashes. I read that the only exception are GeForce FX series so my questions are:

1. Will there be support for Radeon family ever? Eventually in some future version of OpenGL2 plug-in?

2. My processor is Athlon 64 3700+ and I have 1 GB of RAM. When I run some psx game the processor always runs at 100% load!! Why?

Thaks in advance and again well done, Pete.

Hmm try reading the msg board a little and the faqs. You'll see that it isn''t possible on all ati cards due to a hardware limitation.

BTW, PETE!!! Did you see the new X1300-X1800 cards!?!?
THey have internal sup[ost for 4096X40966 textures!?! Whoot! about damn time!

I was discussing this very thing in the following thread: www.foren.de/system/thread-ff7battleswirlswithogl176-pete_bernert-41709-1974501.html

Basically it's a problem with how the OGL2 plugin renders to a texture. I belive there's a solution that maintains the basic functionality but doesn't require such large textures (actually I KNOW there's a solution - because there always is), but Pete doesn't seem very interested. A few posts I've read of his seem to have a smattering of nVidia fanboism and it's unlikely he'll spend time supporting cards he believes are inferior.

On the upside, as mentioned in the above post this shouldn't be a problem with the new X1X00 series of ATI cards, so should you decide the upgrade you can still go with ATI and get high resolution with the plugin.

hey, I am a proud owner of a R9700 Pro

Nevertheless: the 2048x2048 texture limitation of the R3xx/4xx cards is a certain disadvantage, and there is no _real_ way to get around this in my OGL2 plugin. Not yet, not in the future.

The only (not _real_) way would be to design a new plugin (hybrid between OGL1 and OGL2 plugin), and yeah, I am not interested to do one.

Ack sorry, I thought I read something where you said you thought ATI cards were behind the times and nVidia cards were better. I'm wrong again though, jeez I should stop talking. At least it won't be a problem on future ATI cards.

The R300 chipset was great in its time, after that ATI just did spin-off after spin-off without improving the hardware capabilities (well, a few tweaks, kthanx).

Therefore, in the last months (before the X1xxx cards showed up) ATI really was featurewise lotta worse than NVidia. NVidia was better. Just like ATI was better when the R300 cards were released.

Stating this has nothing to do with fanboyism, it's just the way it is.
