Why is KJO tightlipped about his movie?

Karan Johar's new movie stars Shahrukh Khan, but he is not ready to talk about his new offering just yet.

Looks like Karan Johar has a way with the headlines - after reports of his casting woes for his female lead in his forthcoming film 'My Name is Khan', it seems KJO is still a worried man at heart.

"If you are a film maker you are alway worried and it's too early to report about my film, as this is not the right time," Johar told TIMES NOW.

There are rumours doing the rounds that SRK is demanding 50 percent of the film's profit, but Karan for the first time has come clean on them before the camera.

"I want to clear it in front of media that there is no such thing...Shahrukh I have not spoken to in one month, but apparently he is taking 50% of my profit. I want to tell journalists I will give 100%," joked Johar.

Coming back to the starcast of his film, so who's finally making it opposite SRK, Kajol or Kareena?

"I have not finalised anything, even Shahrukh has not read the script...and till I get a yes from him I don't approach anyone else, all these rumours are baseless," is Johar's reply.

Well, KJO might not have finalised his female lead but with SRK on his side, surely the battle is already half won.

Karan Johar has developed a liking for cricket, thanks to pal SRK

A person who has established himself as the new-age Oprah Winfrey in India, you do know by now that he is an impeccable talker.

He has been the only director who has become the talking point for others. At the same time, being single at 35 years of age, people do raise questions about his sexuality too. A prompt Karan replies, “My sexual life is no one’s concern. This is my personal life and that’s supposed to be kept personal.”

His next directorial venture My Name is Khan ismaking news, be it for Kajol’s uncertainty in it or Shah Rukh’s character being inspired from Rain Man. “I think, media has more clues about my film. Regarding SRK’s story, I am neither confirming nor denying,” he quips.

He admits that SRK is the only reason that he is so glued to IPL. “Actually I am into sports. Thanks to him, I am so into cricket for the moment.” So, how is he taking Kolkata Knight Riders debacles? “I think we still have a chance. In a game, you win some and you lose some. I am still rooting for them,” he says.

His assistant Tarun Mansukhani is directing the animated version of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai titled Kuchi Kuchi hota Hai. Animation which is just catching up here and it’s not as rocking as their western counterpart even if Yash Raj’s joint venture with Disney Roadside Romeo. “I think Roadside Romeo is one of our most accomplished works in animation. Obviously we cannot compare our budget with the Hollywood guys,” he says in defence.

What’s his take on Yash Raj’s downslide with constant debacles at the box office? “That’s pretty okay. We make mistakes and films do flop as there is no formula for success. Still, Yash Raj is the most successful production house in India and they have revolutionised the system. You have to give credit them for the iconic films they have produced and their awesome run on the box office,” he adds.

SRK on a different role!

For those who think that Shah Rukh Khan cannot play anything beyond stereotypical characters, think again.



Shah Rukh’s close buddy Karan Johar has challenged Shah Rukh’s acting abilities by asking him to play an autistic in his next, My Name is Khan. No doubt SRK will take inspiration from Dustin Hoffman, who played an autistic in Rain Man, a 1988 film by Barry Levinson, which tells the story of an abrasive, selfish yuppie, Charlie Babbitt, who discovers that his father has left all of his multimillion-dollar estate to his brother, Raymond, a savant, whom he never knew existed.

Shah Rukh did not take long to say ‘yes’ to Karan. Our well-placed source in Bollywood says, “SRK can’t wait for the film to begin. He is very excited about playing this different
character.” Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder, which starts off in childhood. It is characterised by impaired communication, excessive rigidity, and emotional detachment.

“However, he will have to wait since My Name Is Khan has been delayed. Karan had allowed Aditya Chopra to start Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi first, so SRK will first free himself from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and then get on to this challenging role,” our source adds.

A source close to Shah Rukh says, “He’s adventurous and dares to take risks, he dares to be different, and break all rules. It is a misconception that he is repetitive and does not like to play different characters. His performances in Swades and Chak De! India are the best examples to prove this point. My Name Is Khan will be a trump card in SRK’s repertoire. Playing an autistic person will be challenging. Shah Rukh will have to do a lot of homework.”

• You turn 36 on May 25.

Must I be reminded of that? I can’t believe I’m inching towards 40.

• But life begins at 40, doesn't it?

That’s the biggest lie said by people who can’t accept that they are growing old. I’m older, and hopefully wiser.

• Has the film industry made you wiser?

It has toughened me for sure. I only pray that I'm not making the wrong decisions.

• You seem to be making all the right moves.

Right now, I want to expand my production house.

• Were you pompous as a child?

In fact, I had a huge complex because of my weight. Today, I’m so gregarious because I have overcome all my insecurities. I feel good about interacting with people. I can’t let my life be like an open book as there are chapters I don’t want anyone to read. I have many secrets.

• You go all out for Shah Rukh Khan. Recently, you came back all the way from Miami to attend his first IPL match and postponed your own film to accommodate Aditya Chopra's film with SRK.

Yes. But isn't that a given in any friendship? Shah Rukh is like family for me. I'm quite petrified of Shah Rukh and he knows it. He is not my backslapping buddy. His wife Gauri is the one who is more of a friend. She's the one I can say, ‘Oh, Shut up!’ to but even in my wildest dreams, I can't imagine telling SRK to shut up.

• But, will SRK do as much for you as you do for him?

I want to reach a point where I don't expect anything in return. I have full faith in my relationships and believe that they will never disappoint me.

• So, you want to be Mr Congeniality?

I used to be like that in school. I had this craving to be loved, maybe because I was the only child. Today, I've made up for those lonely years with rock-solid relationships. I have no shortage of 4 am friends.

• But, don't you miss that one special person to share your life with?

Last year when I spoke about this, Farah Khan made fun of me. Yes, I'm lonely and single but I'm looking for love. I'm waiting for love to happen to me this year. I know I'll find the right person very soon.

• You're looking out both for love and a new home?

Well…my mom wants both. She first wants a house with a sea-view.

• Is Khan about the Muslim identity and the isolation of the mainstream Muslim?

I'm just making a film. I'm not doing it to be radically different. It's a film full of emotions with a bit of my unusual style. But isn't it time I started getting out of the safe zone at 36?

• So, this is a mature Karan Johar speaking?

I don't know if it's maturity or plain common sense. All I know is that while shooting an item song for Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna I was so f*****g bored! My choreographer Farah and I felt I had become mechanical. I needed a change.

• So, no more formula-based films from you?

My Name Is Khan is an exciting project. For the first time, I'm directing a film that has characters and situations I'm not familiar with. I think I'm the wrong man to direct this film.

• So who do think should be directing My Name Is Khan?

Mani Ratnam, Rakeysh Mehra or Raju Hirani but certainly not me. But, I'm hundred per cent sure I can pull it off.

• Can you ever make a film without Shah Rukh Khan?

I wouldn't like to think about it. Of course it can happen. One can never predict where life will take us...

Kareena Kapoor can put her hopes of being cast in My Name Is Khan to complete rest. For finally Karan Johar’s first choice Kajol has agreed to do the film. Kajol gave the nod to the project on Thursday.

A source close to Kajol’s husband, Ajay Devgan, tells us, “Kajol indeed took a long time to take a call on her participation in Karan Johar’s My Name Is Khan, but the problem was that she had not heard the script in detail. This week, she took a long look at the script and finally said ‘yes’.”

“Karan and Kajol go back a long way. Their dosti is not only friendship but respect for each other as well. Kajol could not have refused the film outright,” the insider further says.

So how will Kajol adjust to the US schedule? Will her daughter Nysa accompany her? Wasn’t that one of the reasons why Kajol took long to give her nod of consent? “Well, that all will be sorted out. Kajol has worked out how to look after Nysa during that period. Whether Nysa will go with Kajol or not is still not known,” our source adds.

We sent a text message to KJo (as Karan is fondly called in the industry), but he did not reply.

My Name Is Khan, directed by Karan Johar, stars Karan’s best buddy, Shah Rukh (who co-produces My Name Is Khan) in the male lead.

The only time Shah Rukh and Kareena have been romantically paired earlier was in Asoka the Great (2001), which too was produced in part by Shah Rukh Khan.

KARAN JOHAR is on top of the world. Kajol has finally gone through his entire bound script and agreed to do his film, My Name is Khan opposite Shah Rukh Khan.


Karan had patiently waited for Kajol to give him a reply but she had been dillydallying.

She then became busy with U Me Aur Hum involving herself in the business aspect of the film too.

At that point she had come out with a statement saying that she had not read the script and therefore could not say yes or no to Karan, explained an insider.

“At that stage Karan who is her good friend could not understand why Kajol had made such a statement to the Press.

Usually she does not ponder over his scripts nor does she act so pricey.

He was a bit annoyed at her sudden starry attitude and he definitely was not going to take it lying down. He decided that he was going to ignore her and think of signing someone else,” continued the insider.

“Of course his next choice was Kareena Kapoor. They had just made up after not talking to each other for almost a year. Kareena knowing which side her bread is buttered decided to make up with Karan.

Her silent war with him had cost her a lot. After all Karan is a powerful director and producer in this industry and if he does not consider someone a good actress or person, many of his sycophants will follow suit.

Karan had made it clear to one and all that Kareena was off his list and gradually Kareena realised her big mistake.

You do not make enemies of the powerful even if you think you are a ‘Kapoor’.” “Karan decided to play his cards cleverly. He sent out feelers to the industry that he was keen on signing Kareena. But few knew that this was a plan on Karan’s part to show Kajol that he waits for nobody.

In his heart Karan was still hoping that Kajol would agree. He felt she needed a push to ‘read’ the script and decide. His pride was bitterly hurt when Kajol gave that statement to the Press thus treating him like some outsider.

He felt that if she had anything to say she could have picked up the phone and told him to his face.

Kajol is known to be brash and impulsive, so Karan who was in no mad hurry decided to leave her alone.” The insider continued, “But fate brought them together even if during a very sad time. Kajol was broken hearted when her Dad passed away and she turned to her good friend Karan for solace. After all they had been close buddies for far too many years. It was during these days that they talked about the film and Kajol explained that her main worry was that she did not want to leave her baby Nysa alone while shooting for a film over long periods. One does not know what transpired between them and how they were able to solve all her problems but Kajol decided to go through the script, loved her role and decided to say yes!” “People all the while were blaming Ajay for Kajol not accepting the role immediately. Ajay and Shah Rukh have never been friends and rumour-mongers always blamed Ajay for not approving of the Shah Rukh-Kajol pairing.

Remember the only friend not invited to the Ajay–Kajol wedding was Shah Rukh? No one has ever confirmed whether he was not invited or he chose not to attend but even though he was in Mumbai he did not attend! Friends insist that the two did not like each other.

One will never know the real reasons as to why Kajol took eternity to agree but all’s well that ends well.

The only sad person in this scenario will be Kareena who was all set to sign on the dotted line.

It is not everyday that one gets to star in a Karan Johar film! Especially one that is going to be produced by Karan and Shah Rukh.” concluded the insider.

Ich hoffe wirklich, das es jetzt 100% stimmt das Kajol dabei ist. Ich möchte die beiden unheimlich gern wieder in einem Film zusammen sehen

Ajay Devgan was under house arrest for a month to make up for his long absence from home, on his daughter Nysa’s demand

Ajay Devgan is a doting father. To make up for his long absence from home, he gave in to his daughter Nysa's demand to spend time with her. He cancelled all his engagements and stayed home for a month and devoted his time completely to Nysa.

“I had no choice,” confides Ajay. “It was my daughter Nysa's command. She's the only woman in my life who can make me dance around her little finger. Now that she's all of five, her demands are far more vocal,” he says.

It all began when Nysa missed Ajay's presence in the house for a long time. Says Ajay, “First, I was shooting non-stop for U Me Aur Hum. Soon after that I had to leave for Goa for filming Golmaal Returns. This long schedule of work didn't go down well with my daughter.” So last month, Nysa forced Ajay to cancel all his engagements and spend more time with her.

Ask Ajay how he coped with being under house arrest for a month and he reacts, “I actually enjoy her bullying me. I absolutely loved the time I spent with her.” Though this was the first time that Ajay spent a chunk of time with his daughter, he loved it so much that now he wants to make it a ritual.

As Ajay has now resumed work and Kajol has signed Karan Johar's film which has to be shot in the US, it is likely to leave Nysa alone. “No, Kajol's film schedule will not pose a problem. I am already planning to spend as much time as I can with Nysa. But otherwise, my parents do a very good job of taking care of her. In fact, Nysa looks up to her grandparents as her own parents. So leaving her at home is definitely not an issue.”

Talk about Kajol getting back to work and Ajay becomes an epitome of a liberal husband. He says, “Kajol is an extremely talented actor and everyone looks forward to her films. And that's the reason it gives me great joy to see her working again. Besides that, she has every right to do what she desires.”

Since Ajay is so smitten by Kajol as an actress, is he planning to cast her in all his films? “Definitely not!” he replies. “Why should she be in all our productions? In fact even I don't intend to star in all the films I direct. Casting would depend entirely on the character to be portrayed. If I feel some other actor suits best in my next directorial venture, then I will go ahead and sign him without blinking an eyelid,” he says.

According to Ajay, reports of him planning to cast Kareena in his next film are baseless. He says, “I have read that I had approached Kareena for my film, that was news to me. I haven't even finalised my script, so how can I ask her or any other actor to be part of my next film? For now I'm happy to have Kareena as my co-star in Golmaal Returns. In fact we will be leaving for Bangkok in a couple of days to shoot the last song. The sequel has turned out much bigger than the first part.”

SRK's to play Rizwan Khan?



Karan Johar is currently in Bangkok for the IIFA awards and once he’s back, he will get busy with his film My Name Is Khan starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, and in all likelihood, will commence shooting towards the end of the year.

SRK plays Rizwan Khan, a character, who has the Asperger syndrome, which is one of several autism spectrum disorders and is characterised by difficulties in social interaction amongst other things in the film. If word is to be believed, then Karan is contemplating changing the protagonist’s name in his film from Rizwan Khan, to something else.

The reason being that Vivek Oberoi’s character in Apoorva Lakhia’s next, Mission Istanbul, which is slated for a July release, is also called Rizwan Khan. Since Karan’s film is titled after the protagonist, the need to change the name to one that is uncommon at least as far as film characters go, seems understandable. Now, it remains to be seen whether Karan actually goes ahead and changes the name to something else or sticks to his original Rizwan Khan.
