Hi all. I understand that the Tamiya metal tracks will fit the HL tanks, is that correct? How do people who have added either metal tracks or metal sprokets or roadwheels (if they exist) find the tank performs? Does it go slower and sit with a more realistic look? Do these modifications add additional stress to the other parts of the suspension unless you upgrade them all? I see there is a members only area where they are looking at upgrading the suspension, similar to the Tamiya tanks, with even aluminium lower hulls!! How is this working out?

Hello!
I think about adding metal tracks from our ImperialChief who manufactures them. They are made of tin. He also produces the corresponding sprocket wheels, either for Tiger or Panther. Since he has tested his tracks on his own tanks, I think you should contact him with a PM. He should easily answer your questions. Just click at “Mitglieder” at the top of our page and enter “ImperialChief” here: “Bitte geben Sie den Benutzernamen ein den Sie suchen wollen“ and click onto „Suchen!“. Now you can write him a PM when clicking onto “Nachricht semden”.
Greetings Sascha

Hi Pete,
I wanted to do this a while ago, but the dealer (Stella models) suggested the HL gearbox wasn't up to the job....A month or so later I decided to buy them anyway. They fit fine (though I did do some filing and swarf-removal before use).
The Tiger I fitted them to (I have about 3 or 4...I lose count!) had been modified to have a weaker suspension for a more realistic look while driving. I restored the springing of the 'corner' wheels to their supplied strength, leaving the intermediate ones the same.
However, I had made some improvements to the suspension: 1) removing the roadwheels and tapping the axles in to remove play. 2) doing the same to the rear idler wheel by splitting it down the middle, then pushing its axle in to give a tight fit. 3) I had previously modified the gearbox to eliminate play by replacing the gearbox wall spacers with 20mm length hex spacers and washers.
I had no major problems doing this, but did worry about the longevity of the gearbox, so I replaced the gears with the metal ones and brass bushes a few weeks ago, just in case.
Due to spending several hours sat in the sun filing the tracks to remove swarf and moulding sprue ejector protrusions and the measures taken above I have not yet had any obvious wear on the drive sprocket or the idler wheel. Some people have mentioned this is the case for them. Perhaps I will eventually have to replace these, but I think they'll be ok for a while yet!
I am currently waiting to receive some of the replacement motors which are lower speed, but higher torque. I have these in my sound and smoke Pershings (2) and the low speed performance is great. However the top speed is correspondingly lower.
Most of the German members want a more true-to-scale accurate slow speed, so there have been a lot of methods to slow the tanks down. My English friends with them want them to be faster...
Hope this helps,
Nigel (Southampton, England)

@NigelDerEnglander: Your friends should buy R/C racing cars, if they want to race. Fastest Tiger in town...
I read you live at Southampton. I've been several times at the Overlord Show at Horndean, not far away from you. My friend Richard lives at Shirrel Heath, even closer to you.
When I'll be the next time in England, (probably May 2006), I can go to Southampton to have a look at you and your Tigers.
You are really not a typical Briton, if you are able to speak German. (OK, some Britons are able to speak German, but they don't do it.)
Best regards from Germany Andreas

Hi Andreas,
Yes, I heard about the Overlord Show a few years ago, but always keep missing it! A colleague always tells me how good it was the Monday after it is over, rather than reminding me on the Friday before! It's only about 4km from where I work too!
I was in Braunschweig in August and would have liked to have dropped by to see you and your Krads! But I knew I was going to be busy with little spare time so I didn't email you.
I must admit though, I not not a great military vehicle enthusiast, I discovered these R/C tanks whilst looking for some R/C aircraft parts on eBay.
However, I _did_ go to the Bovingdon Tank Museum Biennial (every 2 years) show, and _did_ see the Tiger driving round the display area.
I hope you are all jealous....However, the engine did sound awful. There must be something seriously wrong with the restoration I think.

Yes, a Tommy being able to speak German is a rarity!
MfG
Nigel

Tankers, I've been to old 'Blighty'and love the Island and people. The reason I visited was to go to Bovington and look at the Tiger1. It was in the middle of restoration then and I only got a look at the unseated turret. Everything else at Bovington made the trip a complete wonder so I was not disappointed at all. I missed the Tiger being brought out to run when it was complete but have since talked to one of the techs in England from my Panzer Elite forum who had a hand in it's restoration. He noted that the reason the engine sounded so bad was that it was having problems from the exhausts being put back on in their original 'shot up' condition. Hopefully in the interests of a smoothly performing Tiger, this will be fixed in the near future, if not already. Alles Gut! 321HauptmannWolf
