Searching the internet i visit Tankzone and i was imprest by their 1/8 scale Abrams. Really big Tanks and very very expensive too. For me thats a dream tank. Do you people have any idea if there are any drawings and cad designs for metal hull? I like to try to make an aluminum chassis for a tank. I saw some 1/12 abrams models ( looks more like a toy) but the scale is impressive and i am thinking take one of these and duplicate the chassis from aluminum. Do you have any feedback for this? Any help is welcome.

If you have the fabrication equipment and the ability to weld aluminum it probably wouldn't be a problem to take measurements from yours (or someone elses) and fab it yourself.

Hallo,
I have also thought about doing that different times ...
I think with a Dremel and a lathe that should be possible ...
Maybe we can do it together ... beating down the price of the needed parts. ... analyzing where we can get best and cheapest material (maybe work) and so on ...
I will take sth. on board about that ...
Greetings,
Stern

Armotolos Do you want to fabricate just the lower chasis, reinforcements for the plastic hull, or an entire aluminum tank?
Just chasis reinforcements seems like it should be farily easy. Fabricating a full lower hull probably would not be much worse, just a few added bends and some tig welding. An entire tank from scratch may be alot to partake without the tools and knowldege of an aluminum craftsman.

Today i spend a lot of time searching for plans and drawings with no result.
Stern I be happy to work this project together. It will be much easier. We say here in Greece "two minds are always better than a single one".It will be much cheaper too I also have a friend who is aluminum craftsman with a lot of mechanical tools in his workshop and i can use them. I think there are two ways we can start. First is to get a plastic model and recreate it from metal or to find drawings and measures.Any way we should be in contact by phone. You can PM me your phone and call you back if you want. Stang95, I believe that the top of the tank is much more difficult in "artistic" way but lower hull is more difficult in mechanic. I think start with lower hull is the proper way.

I don't think that the mechanicals will be all that difficult, especially not a larger scale. The working suspension would be as simple as duplicating the current arms on an rc tank.
The hardest part I think, would be the drive sprocket. That would have to either be machined in several pieces of cast from a single piece and milled for detail.

Hi Armatolos,Hi Guys,
If you want to get a big tank and don't want to spend a fortune. Then I suggest you find a way to get this beautiful 1/9 scale M1A2 from 21stcenturytoys. It shawdows the 1/12 M1 & 1/16 hobbyzone M1. The details are quite impressive for its size.
The only downside it is US Only in the meantime and only at Walmart. I was lucky to have a friend in South Carolina and he will be sending me one this weekend. We both are building one each.
At is it is quite OK, but of course for those of us who want to make it perfect will try every mod on the book to be this beast as realistic as possible. I estimate the cost to mod build this tank would be no more than buying a 1/16 Tamiya. The tank if self cost $US199 some can even get it at less than $100 if they are lucky.
Here are the photos..

I will do the same mod this guy did (thanks to him), he reinforce the hull will aluminum and installed 12V cordless drill motors and ESCs.
There are problems in the first batch but these were rectified with the newer versions (harder plastic). Anyway Modification of the suspension is an absolutely must coz it still uses the M4 Stuart bogey suspension. Reinforcement & using better material is essential

You can learn alot of this is you look at Yahoogroups: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/oneninthrcabramstank/
To see a the New PIC sound Module mod done by one member Ted go to his website and scroll down to the Demo, Very Nice Gas Turbine sound man!

Hope I give you the encouragement to keep find I way to get your dream tank, this is definitely my dream tank...
