Karan Johar all excited about 2006

As a movie buff and a filmmaker Karan has never been more excited. "Suddenly there's a huge amount of excitement for our cinema. God bless the cine-goer. I'm excited about this year. There're so many big films and they'll change the economics of the industry. After a cerebral and intense Rang De Basanti there was a dramatic Fanaah and then a funny Phir Hera Pheri. Now we've Krissh, Omkara, Munnabhai 2, Kabhi Alvidaa , Dhoom 2, Don…What an amazing buffet of entertainment!"
Karan wants to see them all. But first Krissh. "I saw Krissh. It's amazing and Hrithik is outstanding. Every frame of it makes me delighted. At his age Rakesh Roshan has made a far more techno-savvy film than I could've done at my age. Krissh is going to be a huge hit."



Expectations about KANK scare him. "But by now I'm used to it. Every time I come up with a film the previous one becomes good. When K3G was released it wasn't good. In retrospect it became a likeable film. At the end of the day everything today seems exciting in relation to yesterday." Karan is excited by the thought of working with the best talent in show-business. "For me Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy who've done the music in KANK are the best. Whether it's Javed Akhtar or Shah Rukh Khan, I want only the best in my cinema."

Shankar-Ehsan-Loy will be doing the music score in all of Karan's forthcoming films. "Why not? They're a beautiful fusion of East and West. While Shankar is trained in Indian classical, Ehsaan and Loy are familiar with Western styles. I think they're by far the most talented music composers of the country. I say this not because I've worked with them but because I hear all kinds of film music and understand the market. I respect all the music talents. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are never stubborn about the music. They're positive in their attitude and very open suggestion to ideas." Karan smiles when he remembers the process of music creation. " We went to Goa to create the songs of KANK. We were there for ten days. It was more like a holiday than work. I've never seen three creative people more in-sync."

7 Minuten des RuhmesKaran Johar ist ein erleichtender Mann. Er hat seinen Film KANK letzte Woche fertiggebracht und eine "Unter Dach und Fach -Party" für seine Darsteller und Crew gegeben. Dann ist er nach London, um am 12.Juli an den BAFTA's (britische Verleihung für Film/TV -Kunst) teilzunehmen.

"Sie zeichnen Aamir Khan für seine Leistung in Rang De Basanti und Shahrukh Khan und Yash Copra aus." sagt Karan. K3G wird dort gezeigt. Ich werde auch 7 Minuten von KANK zeigen. Das wird das erste Mal sein, das ein Publikum etwas aus meinem neuen Film sieht.

Bei der Erwähnung von KANK wird Karan sentimental. "Amit uncle war krank, und dann verloren wir 2 Tagen wegen dem Regen..... Jetzt bin ich ängstlich wegen der Veröffentlichung. Ich fürchte mich vor den Erwartungen".

KJ Steps Up The Tempo

“Where’s the party tonight,” say music director trio Shankar-Ehsan-Loy. And the whole world seems to be echoing the same sentiments. Karan Johar, the maverick movie director with a keen insight into the marketing machinery has stepped up the tempo of hoisting his latest venture ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’. Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta and Abhishek Bachchan, KANK is easily the most awaited movie of the year.

The music of KANK is refreshing and is doing well. KJ knows that the build up of any big movie is heavily dependent on its music. He put his best foot forward by flooding the promo of ‘Mitwa’, (arguably the best track of the album) on television news channels and all the film based programmes on other entertainment channels. Featuring Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee, ‘Mitwa’ has a catchy sufi feel that touches the heart.

After the superstar Khan, it’s time for the Rocking Junior Bachchan with the catchy dance number ‘Where’s the party Tonight’. The song is being premiered on television amidst lots of fanfare. The spunky Priety Zinta could be seen shaking-bums-n-legs with Abhishek in a youthful anthem of celebration. Almost a month before its release, KANK is slowly but surely moving towards creating a tremendous curiosity owing to the smart moves of its producer-director. Whether he can match up to ‘Krrish’ remains to be seen. It will be a big hit, nevertheless.

Karan Johar: Love is in the air!
His films are high on emotions, but the behind-the-scenes of his movies have even more mush than that. Apparently on the last day of the KANK shoot, Karan’s entire crew of technicians and assistants got really emotional. They have become so comfortable working with KJ that they’ll sorely miss not being around him. And knowing that his films are far and few, it will be a long break before the team gets together again. KJ was also so emotional that he gave all of them personalized gifts, and the big surprise was when Karan’s mom gifted him an amazing watch, as a pat on the back for all the hard work. Well, there’s a lot of love around here, isn’t there?

NRIs important to Indian film industry: Karan Johar
London, July 23 (IANS) Non-resident Indians are important to the Indian film industry not only as symbols and themes in storylines but also as a significant market for Indian films, according to noted director Karan Johar.

Johar, along with leading lights of the Hindi film industry were here as part of the 'BAFTA Goes Bollywood' event, which included screenings, interviews and workshops with Yash Chopra, Preity Zinta, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Johar.


Several actors and directors stressed the growing importance of the non-resident Indian for the film industry. Shah Rukh Khan told newsmen: 'NRIs have been important to me', while Yash Chopra added: 'NRI market is as good to us as the market in India and Britain is number one for us'.


According to Johar, 'We do not see NRIs as people who are separate from Indians. They are all Indians and in fact the NRIs are more Indian at heart then any of us in India'.


The discussion on the subject - available on popular radio station www.nrifm.com - focussed on the NRI theme that was prominently portrayed in blockbusters such as 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayange' (DDLJ) and 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham'.


Explaining his unique relationship with the NRIs, Shah Rukh Khan admitted that in many of his roles his character has been that of an ideal NRI son or an ideal son-in-law or an ideal lover. Yash Chopra said that his unique relationship with the NRI community began with DDLJ in 1995.


According to him, the time was just right - the age of video was declining; audiences were returning to cinema theatres; India was opening up and the NRIs were looking back towards their home country. In such an environment, DDLJ became a super hit.


Johar said: 'I make films for Indians, whether they live in New York or Bihar. NRI is a status not an identity. For us they are all Indians.'


Yash Chopra said: ''Veer Zaara' was the most important film of my life. It was the most authentic and positive depiction of both countries (India and Pakistan). Boundaries are man-made otherwise we are the same people; we have the same language, same family and same emotions.'


The trio strongly defended the Bollywood style of filmmaking packed with song, dance and melodrama. Yash Chopra and Karan Johar said that such films have to be long and they cannot make shorter length films just for the sake of western audiences.


However, Shah Rukh said: 'Filmmakers tend to get emotional about this issue but I am more practical in matters of length. I truly believe we need to make shorter films.'

Karan needs to de-stress!
Karan Johar's film becomes the biggest thing going around much before its release - actually from the time he announces his films. His entire cast is gung-ho about KANK, and the audiences are waiting with bated breath to see what KJ's going to dish out this time. When the stakes are so high, and the pressure is building up from all quarters, it is bound to take a toll on KJ. So, to beat the stress the lad has hit the gym, and every morning he starts his day with a work-out. And after he shrugs off the stress, KJ is ready to take on the world!

Karan Johar gets mobbed!
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it Shah Rukh? No, it’s Karan Johar. Apparently, Karan has been so engrossed in the making of his latest mega film KANK that he has had absolutely no time to even shop for himself for along time. So now that his film is all set to release soon, he decided to treat himself to a shopping spree at a spanking new mall in the city, where he was seen checking out all the latest gizmos and gadgets. Imagine his surprise when a huge crowd (that would make even Shah Rukh proud) assembled outside the mall within minutes to get a glimpse of their favourite director. Of course, when Karan stepped out, he was mobbed with requests for autographs. After obliging a few fans, the shy Karan immediately zoomed off in his car, unable to handle the attention any more. Must say, with the positive buzz on KANK, Karan had better get used to it real quick!

Karan Johar's wurde von Taxifahrern gemobbt!

Wir alle wissen, dass die Zuschauer KJ genauso anbeten wie sie ihre Lieblingsstars anbeten. Und er ist auch ein blendender Filmemacher. Kürzlichals er in seiner absoluten Lieblingsstadt, New York, war, wurde Karan von einer Bande desi Taxifahrer aus unserem Teil der Welt gemobbt. Sie wollten alles über KANK wissen, und mehr über den Mann KJ. Natürlich, war ihre erste Frage - "Wann drehen sie ihren nächsten Film?" Ok, Leute, willkommen im Club - das ist auch unsere große Frage an Karan!

Karan Johar wird zum Hochzeitsberater in New York

Nach "Khabi Alvida Naa Kehna" (KANK), hat Regisseur Karan Johar einen neuen Job gefunden der ihn auf Trab hält- den eines Hochzeitsberaters!

"Ich bin hier in New York und habe denn großartigen Job indische Paare bei ihren Hochzeiten zu beraten. 'Kabhi Alvida...' hat eine Kette von Zweifeln und Revisionen in den Gedanken vieler Paare ausgelöst. Und sie meinen ich bin der Lage sie zu beraten. Glück für mich, Pech für sie," sagt Johar, der in New York Urlaub macht.

Neu ist, Johar hat schon damit begonnen an seinem neuen Projekt zu arbeiten. Ohne im Moment groß ins Details zu gehen, es wird ein Film der ihn wiede in den Bereich reifer menschlicher Beziehungen geraten lässt.

"Das ist der einzige mögliche Weg." behaupted Johar.

"Ich habe Blut geleckt. Und okay, nicht jeder liebt meinen Leistung die Geflogenheiten einer Ehe zu prüfen. Aber die Antworten haben mich ermutigt beim nächsten Mal weiter als ANK zu gehen. Aber jetzt bin ich in New York für einen ausgedehten Urlaub." erzählt Johar IANS.

Nicht schon wieder New York" Hat er da nicht KANK gedreht?

"Ja habe ich. Aber es ist eine Sache in einer Stadt einen Film zu drehen. Und eine andere in derselben Stadt Urlaub zu machen. Wenn man am Set ist, kann man nie den Ort geniessen. Jetzt bin ich in New York ohne mich in der Landschaft nach geeigeten Drehorten umzusehen.

In der zweiten Septemberwoche, fliegt Johar nach Kanada um an dem Toroto Film Festival teilzunehmen, bei dem KANK unter dem Titel "Never say Goodbye" in einer Gala Vorführung gezeigt wird.

Der Film hat in den Hautrollen Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee und Preity Zinta.

"Amit-ji wird mir in Toronto Gesellschaft leisten. Er kommt aus London (wo er Balkrishnan's Cheeni Kam dreht). Sollte eine Menge Spaß geben."

"In New Youk ist es einfacher eine Affäre zu haben", erklärt Filmmacher Karan Johar an einen schönen Sonntagmorgen in Toronto. "Die Chancen, dass es dein Ehegatte, die Familie oder Freunde es sofort herausfinden ist hier geringer als in vielen großen Städten in Indien."
Johar fügt auf eine Frage auf der Pressekonferenz für Kahbi Alvida Naa Kehna auf dem Toronto International Film Festival hinzu, dass er den Film überall auf der Welt einschliesslich New Dehli oder Mumbai hätte drehen können. Aber sie nach New Yourk zu verlegen macht die Geschichte um den Ehebruch überzeugender.

"In Mumbai oder Dehli erfährt jeder von der Affäre von dem Moment an, an dem die sie beginnt," erklärt er.

Ursprünglich wollte er den Film in London drehen aber bei der Produktion ergaben sich logistische Probleme. "Wir haben Kal Ho Naa Ho in New York gedreht und es machte Sinn diesen Film auch in und um New York zu drehen," sagt er.
