Dheirya shoots despite being unwell

One of the most popular kids on the Paanchvi Pass panel, Dheirya was unwell last week. But the good boy still continued shooting for the show.

An eyewitness from the sets says, "Dheirya was down with fever and everyone was tense about it. However, he still finished shooting for the day. He is the cutest and the nicest kid on the show. He is naughty and makes everyone laugh."

"His innocence is his key and that is why he is so popular. His parents too were worried but next day also he came and shot for two episodes. He recovered really quickly," he added.

Dheirya, popularly known as Harry Puttar, is everyone's darling on the sets. He has done few commercials and movies before this.

Paanchvi Pass is a simple show - SRK

According to Shah Rukh Khan, Paanchvi Pass is a very simple game show. He feels the show's questions are simpler than any other show.

Talking about the show and his experience of what the contestants thinks about it, he says, "Actually what I feel is that when you enter the show you tend to forget all the knowledge that you have gathered. The questions are so simple that sometimes one feels fake questions are being asked."
He continues, "You tend to think how such simple question be asked for one crore. But all the kids are able to give the answers in a minute. We adult are disbelievers and that is why contestants think a lot even while answering simple questions."

Watch this simple show with a special host every Friday - Sunday at 8 pm.

The naughty student of class V

Sagar Vedula from Surat was the naughtiest contestant on Paanchvi Pass this week. He made everyone laugh and the class had a lot of fun playing with him.

Sagar, who is a big Shah Rukh fan, told him, "Whenever I came to Mumbai, I wished to see you. I have passed Mannat so many times and wanted to see it from the inside. I tried to butter up your security guard and I have even offered him a bribe."

But the guard did not allow Sagar in. "I managed to peek into your garden and then I took a few pictures with your guard since it was impossible to meet you. But today I am standing next to you and I shall take a photograph of us together."

When Sagar was asked what he would do if he won five crores, he said, "I will buy Mannat, it is one of my dreams." SRK then showed Sagar how to work up a charm and replayed a scene from his hit DDLJ with the contestant. Sagar gave him friendship band and asked SRK to give him an autograph.

Catch more such students, in the paanchvi class every Friday - Sunday at 8pm.

Motherly Poonam on Paanchvi Pass sets

After a wonderful, funny class with Sagar, SRK's next student was Poonam Mahajan from Kolkata. Poonam, who is a housewife, came with a bunch of red roses which she gifted to Shah Rukh. Since sweet is Kolkata's famous dish she brought a big box of sweets which she fed SRK personally.

She told SRK, "You are like my child and we all love you. I am proud of you and I want to be your mother. You have done a great job so far. The work which you have done is commendable but packing of the sweet is not so good."

SRK replied, "The packing is not important but the feelings are. I love sweets and thank you for the roses."

The sweet mother gave lots of love to all and was having fun with all the kids and the host. She became the roll over contestant for the next episode.

Let's see how much Poonam will win this Friday at 8 pm.

SRK takes blame for dipping TRPs of Paanchvi Pass

MUMBAI: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Friday took the blame for the dipping TRPs of his television show Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain because the show could not attract audiences despite his presence.

"Even in my films, it is said that it will get a good opening because I am there. If I consider the same yardstick, a star of my calibre should have brought enough audiences before the television set. If there is no opening and lack of appeal for the show despite my presence, then I think I am responsible," Shah Rukh said while interacting with a select group of journalists on the sets of Paanchvi Pass at film city in suburban Mumbai.

However, he defended his decision to do the show because it was educative and he liked being in the company of children.

"Maybe the format was not appealing, but we were bound by the original format (Are you smarter than the fifth grader),"he said

"There are no options for a question on this show. This brings loneliness whereas giving options sees involvement of more than one person. Some have not liked that the contestant at the time of dropping out of the contest, being asked to say that " hum paanchvi pass se tez nahi hain " (I am not smarter than the fifth grader).

The actor wondered why should there be a problem with the statement because it is not meant to show disrespect to the contestant.

"Grown-ups forget that it is okay not to know everything. They don't realise the beauty of saying I don't know some things," he said.

The actor felt that the key to his success was that he was open to accepting that he doesn't know everything.

He said he had enjoyed being part of Paanchvi Pass . "It is close to what I am and refreshing like KBC. I only act as a host," he said.

He said he was comfortable working with children. "I treat them as adults," he said.

Shah Rukh agreed that several television programmes have been swept away by the IPL ratings. Besides, the audiences have become fragmented and even the concept of silver and golden jubilees for movies is over.

"According to some feedback we have received, it is felt that the timings (8pm) is too early. Some felt that the show was marketed as a children's show and may be adults wondered whether to see it or not," the actor felt.

The actor said that he has not received any negative feedback about the show. "In fact, KBC received mixed response," he added.

Shah Rukh admitted that the ratings of the show post IPL would help the Paanchvi Pass team to analyse in a more effective way.

Responding to a question on whether he was unnerved, the actor said: "May be next time I may not be signed for a television show and might be paid a much lower fee."

He agreed that at present there was no novelty factor in television programmes. "If something has to change on television, it is the news," he said sarcastically.

He said that there has been an overkill of reality shows but Paanchvi Pass is technically speaking a quiz show and not a reality show.

Bachchan’s figures on ‘Paanchvi Pass’ give incomplete picture: Siddhartha Basu

May 26th, 2008 - 9:41 am ICT

By Radhika Bhirani
New Delhi, May 26 (IANS) The statistics that veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan presented in his blog about “Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain” hosted by Shah Rukh Khan fail to give a complete picture, says Siddhartha Basu, the producer of the TV quiz show. “Mr. Bachchan is entitled to his views and we respect his opinion, whether we agree with it or not. The figures sent to him as used in the blog give an incomplete picture,” Basu told IANS.

On his blog, the Big B had commented on Shah Rukh’s stint in “Paanchvi Pass” and questioned why “despite the presence of the biggest name in the business”, the show was showing a depleting performance as per Television Rating Points (TRPs).

“‘Paanchvi Pass’, or as one rival channel executive sniggered, ‘Paanchvi Fail’, after its not too encouraging numbers, facing relative lower ratings, is what I wish to debate on,” wrote Amitabh. However, he later apologised for this analysis.

Amitabh also made uncharitable comparisons between himself and Shah Rukh as hosts of the popular game show “Kaun Banega Crorepati” (KBC) that is no longer on air.

Basu, the brainchild behind both the shows, explained: “With the exponential growth in TV sets and viewers, analysts have shown how each subsequent series of ‘KBC’ actually had a higher viewership than the earlier ones and ‘KBC 3′ with Shah Rukh had the highest number of viewers.”

“This no reflection on the excellence of Mr. Bachchan’s hosting of the show or Shah Rukh’s wit and charm.

“I believe Shah Rukh makes a superb host of ‘Paanchvi Pass’, and his repartee, articulation, sense of humour and unmatched ability to think on his feet mark him out as a truly world class host.”

Apart from Amitabh’s analysis that has invited a lot of media attention, there has been speculation that the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) matches have affected the popularity of “Paanchvi Pass”.

Basu admits that IPL has affected the show’s viewership, saying: “Yes, of course, all new shows launched during this period such as ‘Paanchvi Pass’, and running ones too have been hugely affected by the IPL. A truer picture of the response to the show would emerge after IPL as its telecast would continue for the full run of 36 episodes.”

Kya 'Paanchvi Pass' has Failed?

Siddharth Basu of Synergy Adlabs speculates on the low rating of 'Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?'.....

Siddharth Basu of Syngery Adlabs admits that his much hyped Star Plus show Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? has not been able to garner high TRPs. “We have failed to get a good sampling despite aggressive promotion. The opening rating was 4.7 which dipped further”, says Siddharth.

Pointing fingers at the ongoing IPL matches for eating away into the rating of this ShahRukh Khan anchored thirty-six episode quiz show, Siddharth opines, “Nobody expected the IPL to be such a big hit, as club cricket has never been so successful”.

He adds on to say, “Besides IPL, some other factors may also be responsible for the low rating, which we need to study in detail”. However he was hopeful that once IPL gets over, the ratings will rise and June, July will be much more productive for the show.

Dismissing the never-ending comparisons of Paanchvi Pass with earlier seasons of KBC, Basu says, “That was a totally different era. Today the level of fragmentation is so huge that even the very popular IPL has not been able to cross the rating of 8.We need to understand that given the size of the audience pie, even limited ratings still mean large number of eye balls.”

On the big question of whether 'Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain' has failed?, Basu replied that the public may not have liked the format. “Nobody likes to be humiliated”, adds in Basu.

He further did not subscribe to allegations that Khan's charm had failed to rein in the interest of the audience. “We all know how powerful he is; look what he has done to IPL”, came the spontaneous answer from Basu. So will King Khan return with the next season of KBC? “Well he has a contract of one season left with us. Now it’s up to the broadcaster to take the next step”, he ended.
