TV stars go ga-ga over Shah Rukh

New Delhi, May 10 (IANS) Popular television actors Gauri Pradhan and Hiten Tejwani can't stop raving about Shah Rukh Khan ever since they shot for a special episode of "Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain" hosted by the Bollywood superstar.
"Fabulous!" is how Gauri, who plays Nandini in "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi", describes her experience of being with King Khan.
Parul Chauhan and Sarah Khan of "Sapna Babul Ka...Bidaai" also took part in the same episode, which will be telecast on STAR Plus Sunday. Both said they had goose bumps after seeing him.
"He (Shah Rukh) made us so comfortable on the sets. He even arranged a mock shoot for us so that we would be able to shoot for the show conveniently," Gauri told IANS on phone from Mumbai.
"Shah Rukh is very enthusiastic and energetic and he is so friendly that we didn't even feel that we were shooting with a star like him," she said.
The programme, formatted on the US game show "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader", features adult contestants facing questions picked directly from school textbooks.
Parul, who plays Ragini in "Sapna Baabul Ka...", gushed with excitement when asked about her stint on the show. She is an ardent fan of the superstar and admits having seen all his movies.
"When I saw Shah Rukh, it seemed that my life had stopped for a split second. I kept looking at him until he came and hugged us (Sarah and me)," she said.
She went on to explain how Shah Rukh humbly allowed Sarah and herself to kiss "the cute dimples on his cheeks". "We danced with him on 'Mahi Ve' and he also let us sing the title track of our show. It was the most memorable day of my life," Parul said.
Sarah, who plays Parul's sister on their serial, said: "It was a very nice experience meeting him. We chatted a lot together."
Gauri's husband Hiten, also of "Kyunkii..." fame, says they were slightly sceptical about being on the show earlier.
"I really enjoyed myself on the show but the fact that we would be facing questions that we studied almost 25-30 years ago made us a little unsure about being there," he said.
He said the five kids on the show are really smart and helpful. About the show, he said: "One might be knowing all the answers. But when you face the camera, you tend to forget."
But Hiten was happy that he and Gauri could answer most questions posed to them.

Kya Parul Paanchvi Pass se Tez Hai?
Parul Chauhan and her on screen sister Sara Khan from Sapna Babul Ka Bidaai came to support a charitable organization called Help Age India. Here Parul talks about her thrilling experience on the show and with the King Khan.

An excited Parul says: "Oh my god! They informed us at the last moment. I was so tensed about what was going to happen in the show and all. Personally we came to see whether we were tez or not.”
And despite being one of the most popular actress’ on the telly these days, Parul says meeting SRK was amazing for her.
“The most important thing was meeting SRK! I am crazy for him. I have seen his movie Kal Ho Naa Ho twenty times and I have cried all twenty times. I have only seen his eyes in the movie. I have learnt lots of things from him. Whenever I get nervous and I want to do an emotional scene, I generally go and watch his movie,” reminisces Chauhan, “We got a chance to meet him, shake hands with him, dance with him and above all I kissed him. It is really big thing for me. I am from a small town and now I am going to call everyone and tell them all of this.”
Parul who plays Ragini and Sara who plays Sadhna did well in the show. Their bhabhi Ashita Dhawan also got a chance to kiss SRK.
Make sure you do not miss seeing the Bidaai girls have fun with SRK on Sunday, 8pm.

Hiten - Gauri on PP
TV's most popular couple Hiten and Gauri were on Paanchvi Pass' special episode. The members of Virani Parivar were there to support their favourite beta and bahu. Here Gauri and Hiten talk about their experience on the show.

"It was great fun but while we were coming here we were nervous thinking whether we would be able to answer the questions or not and that too in front of kids. But SRK made us feel so comfortable. We enjoyed a lot and managed to answer most of the answers," says the couple.
Showering praise on King Khan, the couple says, "He never made us feel like he is the big star. He is very down to earth and in fact he made us feel like we were bigger stars. It was very sweet of him to compare us with his and Kajol's pairing. Before the show started, he guided us asking us to stay calm."
We asked both how they felt to be in the 5th grade. "I was good then but not now," says Gauri, while Hiten adds, "I was very good because I did not know anything. Without help, we would have been able to answer only one or two questions here."
Before signing off, the couple thanked the Virani family for their support, "Baa just loves to dance and she just needs an excuse but it was very nice that they specially came to support us. All of us danced with SRK which was great."
Catch the special episode this Sunday, 8pm.

The SRK - Vibha connection
Vibha Chibber, who plays Ragini's mother in Bidaai, came to cheer her on screen daughter and niece Ragini and Sara but SRK had not forgotten Krishnaji from Chak De.
Talking about her, he says, "How can I forget Krishnaji, the strict teacher. It was really nice meeting her in the show."
On the other hand, Vibha replies, "I was waiting for this opportunity to meet him. I did not get any chance after Chak De. He is a nice guy and immediately recognized me. Whenever I meet him I feel great and it was nostalgic as he reminded me of the Chak De days. When they told me that these two girls are participating and we have to go to support them, I started counting the days."
Vibha says she enjoyed the show. "Both Parul and Sara tried hard to win money and I am happy for them. It would not have been easy for me. Now also when I teach my daughter I come to know how difficult it is. We have learnt it in the past and it is not easy to remember it after so many years. But overall it was a great experience."
Vibha was seen chatting with SRK's staff on the sets. So keep watching Paanchvi Pass every Friday - Sunday at 8 pm.

SRK charms Bidaai team
The Bidaai girls were clearly bowled over by SRK on the show. Ashita Dhawan was the first girl who confessed that she was a die hard fan of his.

"I am crazy for him. We had met twice before this but it was a dream come true when he kissed me. He even remembered my meeting with him in Kamalistan studio when I was a child. For the entire next month I am going to fly like a bird. It was because of me that the others got a chance to kiss him. They should be thankful to me. He is the best and it was his greatness that he came to us and kissed all of us," says an excited Ashita, who plays bhabhi in Bidaai.
On the other hand, Kinshuk says, "They did a great job in the show. I would not have been able to answer even two questions. It was cool that the kids recognized me because of my show on Disney. Shah Rukh is a very sweet person and I was very happy to meet him. Both Parul and Sara rocked on the show."
Stay tuned for more special episodes every Friday - Sunday at 8pm.

SRK of IPL cannibalizes SRK of KAPPS?
Even before the first episode of KYA AAP PAANCHVI PAAS SE TEZ HAIN was aired, anchor Shah Rukh Khan had declared that it would get higher ratings than the Indian Premier League matches (IPL), which interestingly also has Shah Rukh's own team, Kolkata Knight Riders. The opening episode of the show nearly proved him right with the first episode of the quiz show garnering a rating of 4.7, while IPL matches on Sony Max got a slightly higher 5.0. The second episode of KAPPS was marginally higher at 3.7 as compared to IPL's 3.6. However, the subsequent episodes of KAPPS could not maintain the same momentum and the same level of audience enthusiasm.
A leading Bollywood trade expert says that quiz shows are a passé. And it seems unlikely that a quiz show is going to attract eyeballs, unless there is something radically different, unique and novel. The show hosted by the charismatic Shah Rukh Khan in his inimitable style is unlikely to notch up high TRPs and it has nothing to do with the superstar's performance. KAUN BANEGA CROREPATI (adaptation of 'Who wants to be a Millionaire') at least tested one's general knowledge. Many questions in PAANCHVI PAAS are so text bookish that even Bollywood's global superstar fails to involve the audience / viewers.
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan too touched on the subject and has a few interesting points to make. Just last week he said on his blog - The strength of KBC as a game show is quite apparent. 'Who wants to be a Millionaire' was and is successful in over 80 countries, so India moved with some degree of advantage, Star TV having tested the waters so to speak, before its launch.
He also asks a few pertinent questions:-
1) Is the format of question answer game shows loosing its shine?
2) Despite the presence of the biggest name in the business, why its depleted performance?
3) Are the TV ratings a correct indicator of the popularity of a particular show?
4) The number of people accessible to TV has exponentially gone up. Does this reflect positively or negatively on the ratings?
5) Is the fall in ratings due to the increase in the number of channels?
Then there are others who feel that KAPPS will come into its own once the IPL matches get over. They also point that King Khan's involvement and the matches of his own team Kolkata Knight Riders have at many times overlapped the airing time of KAPPS. Amusingly, they say, SRK of IPL has cannibalized the SRK of KYA AAP PAANCHVI PAAS SE TEZ HAIN!

Madhuri, Juhi snub Paanchvi Pass
Author: Shaheen Parkar Date: 16 May 2008
Did not take Paanchvi team’s calls; SRK had to call KJo at the last minute
Madhuri Dixit was supposed to feature with Rani Mukerji in the celebrity episode of Paanchvi Pass, which was shot on Wednesday. At the nth hour the actress remained unreachable.
As a result, Juhi Chawla was asked to be on the show. But Chawla, too, did not respond to the phone calls. As a last resort, host Shah Rukh Khan called buddy Karan Johar to step in.
Saving face
Paanchvi, produced by Siddharth Basu’s Synergy Communications, had been in touch with Madhuri. But when the date to shoot was nearing, she remained elusive. As a result, Juhi’s name was considered.
Says a source, “Time was running out, SRK took on the onus to salvage the situation. He called buddy Karan Johar (who picked up the phone!) and the director made his way to the show.”
Says Rikku Rakeshnath, Madhuri’s spokesperson, “I don’t think she was supposed to be on the show.”

Kyunki stars' day out with SRK
One of the most popular couples of TV - Hiten and Gauri Tejwani - were on Paanchvi Pass. Members of the Virani family came to support them and all of them had a gala time together.
During the introduction, Shah Rukh compared Hiten and Gauri with him and Kajol. He also complimented Manav Vij (Joydeep) saying he looked like Johnny Depp and not some geek character. The most respectable member of the family Sudha Shivpuri (Baa) was also present on the sets and shook legs with SRK on Dard-e-disco on the star's special request.

Mouni Roy (KT) explained to King Khan the meaning of both her on screen and off screen name while SRK complimented her saying she is looking very hot and sizzling so she should do an item number on the show. And when Reshmii Ghosh (Bhoomi) told SRK about her on screen relation with Hiten and Gauri, he immediately asked her whether she is their real daughter or not!

Hiten and Gauri won 20 lakhs which they are going to donate to Project Crayon. Shah Rukh also played a rapid fire round with all the members of the Viranis with questioned based on their family.

I am very childlike: SRK
Shah Rukh Khan may be 42 but he confesses that he is still like a child at heart.
He says, "I am a very childlike person. I enjoy every small pleasure of life like getting gifts. Even if I play marbles I like to win and feel great. In fact, the whole idea of doing this show came to my mind because of that. Though there will be less interaction with kids I just love the innocence of children."

The star adds, "Whenever we are teaching our children or going through the questions and we do not know the answer, we never confess it in front of the kids. We tend to forget the technical words as we are growing older but we know the terminology. We forget the essence of it so I think this show will bring that quality back and also some kind of emotions."
SRK admits that he has also forgotten things which he had learnt in past while teaching his son Aryan. "It's great that here in this show we provide you information about it. I am very thrilled that I am getting a chance to do things which I have been wanting to do for years and one which has huge prize money."
He signs off saying, "The kind of actor and person I am matches with what the show needs. I can hug, talk to kids and sometimes dance with them so I am very happy."
Keep watching the child in SRK and his paltan every Friday-Sunday at 8 pm.
