I've been visiting this site for a few years now, my first account was "grahf" (but I lost the password).
Anyway, something that has always been a great difficulty for me to overcome is the fact that people post so many different shaders to choose from, but they do *NOT* post exactly what those shaders do in terms that laypeople can understand.
It is simply not possible for me to try every single one of the many dozens of shaders here and see the effects for myself.
For example:
Suppose I would like a shader that would be good for 2D games such as RPGs, like Lunar or Valkyrie Profile.
I have no clue which of the shaders here would be best for that!
It is often said again and again that shaders are a matter of "taste" and that no one shader is necessarily "better" than another....but how can I possibly know which one I would "prefer" if I don't even understand what the shaders do?
Ideally, I'd like a shader that makes my display look like a PSX game on a CRT monitor; I would like scanlines, color bleed, over-saturation, heavy contrast, but also some color glow, with a general blurriness or fuzziness.
Those are a lot of specific desires, but as of now I'm stuck because I have NO clue which shader here is closest to fulfilling those goals because it is never posted *exactly* what those shaders do....

I agree.
But it's still best to try it out yourself, since moste shaders can be used to do things they originally weren't intended to. Just give 'em a few modifications...
I think the best solution would be a database with per-game-recommendations...
