hi!

i have problems with the internal resulotion:
everything works fine with x=high and y=very high

when x=very high i see the fps and there's also sound but the screen stays blank

i tried changing renderer mode - no luck

my sys specs:

athlon xp 2800
1gig ram
x850 pro 256mb
17" tft 1280x1024

is it possible that i'm using a wrong setup?

also i don't see a difference between y=high and very high
y=ultra does't work

pls help me

It's your video card. Using very high X requires that your video card support 4096x4096 size textures. The X850 (and all older ATI cards) only support a max texture size of 2048x2048.

The new X1X00 seriest of ATI cards do support 4Kx4K textures, but they still don't work for some reason.

So you can only use very high X is on an nVidia card (because they've had 4Kx4K texture support on their cards for a while now)

The X and Y resolutions have different requirements at different levels. You need to meet the highest requirement. Very high X requires 4096x4096 textures and there is no ultra high X. Very high Y only requires 2048x2048 textures, while ultra high Y uses 4096x4096. You need 4096x4096 texture support to use very high X even if you're using just very high Y.

As for what it looks like: the standard resolution of most PS1 games is around 320x240 (it varies by a couple pixels depending on the game). High doubles this resolution and very high quadruples the original resolution. So on high most games will effectively be displayed at 640x480, on very high most games will be displayed at 1280x960. So in terms of jaggies it looks comparable to PC games running at those resolutions.

Note that Pete's older 1.76 OpenGL plugin works differently and doesn't have an internal resolution. On that plugin the game gets rendered at the resolution you specify, however it's not as compatible - specifically framebuffer effects like the battle transition swirls in a Final Fantasy game won't look correct, or even work at all.
