I've never been at a concert of Esther in Israel, but I think amidst her adoring Hamburg public that's the closest you can get in Europe. Feeling all the love and affection coming toward her, Esther said on the Friday evening that she must be "zu Hause". It was wonderful she dusted off 'Ma omrot eynaich' again which she said she hadn't sung for a while. It sounded all fresh again. 'Shir hanoded' was another Hebrew standard which I hadn't heard for a while. On Saterday she gave it a delicate introspective treatment. In contrast, Esther tore the roof off the building with 'Moon of Alabama'. A big compliment must also be paid to her musicians. Yoni's pianissimo during 'Frank Mills', or those beautiful harmonies in the dramatic moments of 'Besade Patuach'. I also noted they slipped some new jazz chords under the old "pop" songs. 'Speak low' was so infectious that I found myself energized by it. We have been privileged to enjoy that unique and instantly identifiable voice again, perfect pitch, flawless intonation, and Esther's impeccable taste in repertoire.

Hallo, in Hamburg regnete es in Strömen und in Strömen kamen die Besucher ins St.Pauli-Theater, um Esther zu sehen. Es waren u. a. Fans aus der Schweiz, aus Holland, England und Süddeutschland angereist. Das Theater schrieb, daß jedes Konzert von Esther eine Premiere sei-und in der Tat-so ist es! Jedes Lied wurde vom Publikum stürmisch beklatscht. Es war wieder das "alte" Programm, aber wie gesagt, Esther gelingt es jedes Mal, ihre Songs "neu" zu gestalten. Besonders gefreut habe ich mich über "Ma omrot eynaich" und "Shir hanoded", die sie nach längerer Zeit wieder gesungen hat. Als sich ein Besucher mit dem hebräischen "Toda" bedankte, fühlte sich Esther wie daheim. Ja, es war fast wie in Tel Aviv. Jeden Abend gab es standing ovations und immer 4 Zugaben. Das Publikum geriet fast außer Rand und Band. Was wäre erst los, wenn Esther mal wieder "Sommerwind" singen würde??!!
Hamburg lag im Regen und das gesamte St.Pauli-Theater im Glückstaumel.
