My metal gears came in Saturday. I tore the tank apart and installed them, that part went well. Then I attacked the gun mechanism to see if I could get it to shoot better. Started out fine, until the little rubber nipple looking thing disappeared. I think that it may have actually shot out of the cannon. Don't know for sure, but it is gone, and the cannon no longer fires. I have heard that it may be the hop-up...don't know, ordered a new shooting mechanism from Mato.
I also had to order a new turret. My dog either loves small scale rc vehicles....or he hates them because all he does is chase every rc vehicle down and bark at it. Well while preparing to go down a 5" drop from one room to the other he decied to jump over the tank, caught the rear of it and flipped the tank over the drop. I had the gun turned around to the rear, and when it landed half of the cannon barrel snapped off. Oh well.
Now that I have everything apart I was looking at the turret traverse ring and noticed that one of the gear teeth has not been cut out, there is a block there. Figured out that is what makes the turret stop before it gets to 180 degrees of the rear. Is it ok to cut that last gear so the turret traverses 360 degrees?

Is it possible the uncut gear tooth you referred to is a safety feature to prevent 360 degree turrent traverse? Unlike the real Tiger, the turret electrical system is hard wired to the tank body. If the model had unlimited traverse left or right, you would risk tearing the wiring apart.
I know the American Sherman used an electrical slip ring assembly mounted between the bottom of the turret basket and the body of the tank to transfer electrical power and radio communications from the main body to the turret. I suspect the Tiger used a similar system.
It would be an interesting challenge to design a scale slip ring system for the R/C tank.

Dear David & Stang, For 'slip ring' system, please see SFC thread. Or copy & paste http://www.foren.de/system/morethread-- … 00-10.html And stang, it is a shame that a dog can bully a tiger. Hurry up & fix the gun & let your tiger show the K9 who is the boss !

Hey Stang, that little nipple thing is the pellet holder/seal for the airsoft gun. without it the gun will shoot but you will have Zero velocity! It holds the pellet until the bolt pushes it through and then it seals the breach to send the pellet down the barrel. My tank came perfect except that damn nipple, was in sideways, my attempts to fix it failed and I also noted the breach piece is weak too. I too ordered a new shooter unit from Mato and it should be here this week. I wasn't too upset since the unit is only $4.50 being that cheap, i found it easier to replace then waste any more time monkeying with the messed up one. FWIW this gun has no hop up system regardless of what the manual says. Heng long very obviously copied the manual from a Mauri tank and didn't change the hop up part. Also this airsoft unit comes stock with a fairly heavy spring, so much so that I found quite a few stress cracks in the breach when I pulled it out. I think they need that sharp snap on the gun because the compression chamber is fairly small even for an airsoft gun, of course it has to be to be able to fit into the turret. For a barrel I'm using a longer airsoft gun barrel that I got out of a cheap airsoft gun I formerly gutted, for extra length I'm sleaving it with a brass tube. since I have a panther, just a little larger diameter then the airsoft barrel itself is more to scale then the barrel that is on it, for a tiger, you really only need to lengthen the outer barrel which is pretty easy to do as shown on here using a piece of pen casing. Hallo Stang,
there is a simple trick to make the dog love the Tiger:
The dog has to recognize the Tiger as a "food-bringer"
I had put some "dog-Leckerli (dog-choclate or s.e.)" on the tank - started from the first meeting of both ...
result: my dog loves all Tiger and takes special care of them ... !
And after all ...
pierre is absolutly right - this is a shame
Greetings,
Stern

Dear Stern, Last time I tried your method, the dog ate my tank too, thinking it is made of chocolate.
P.S. just kidding.

LOL. I think he loves that small RC vehicles. He has alot of fun chasing them around. He almost catches my RC18B in the front yard, and will chase it till the batteries run out.
He DOES respect it as well...especially when he sees the LED light up when the cannon is about to fire....that will change when I eliminate that light...(Poor Dog)!
I am waiting on the shooting unit and the new turret to come in. Hopefully it will be here by Saturday so that I can get moving on it. I have posted this in a few forums so please excuse the repetition here. I plan on painting it (maybe similar to Sterns since I like his paint so much), making shields to keep the gear grease off the electrics, maybe flip the mantlet so that it looks right, open the periscope (have a hole there from some airsoft fun), move the antenna to a more correct location, and I am thinking of modifying the turret ring (it doesn't look that hard to do with a little patience), add a charging jack, and move the on/off switch to the rear of the tank.
Stern did the pistol gun port on your turret pop off easily? I want to correct that as well while I'm working on it. Check your email as well. I have sent an email from RCUniverse.
Rum, thanks for the advice on the barrel. I have three airsoft guns that I love too much to tear apart. That and I don't think any of thier barrels will be long enough (all pistols). Now I have to search these forums to see what the correct length on the outer barrel will be so that I can extend it and check the correct length I will need for the inner barrel.I may bring my caliper to the hardware store and try and find some sluminum rod with a smaller bore than the 6.15mm that mine has so that I can get some more compression behind the bb's.

Hallo Stang,
a)email:
you got a PM !
excuse !
b)It was no problem to pop of the KWK - it was just a bit of hot-melt adhesive on it - so if you be carefull and gently it shoud not be a problem.
Really difficult it is to put it back - the little gum between the alu and the mechanic of the airsoft has to "sit" exactly !
Hope this helps you a little - feel free to ask !
Greetings,
Stern
