The game is just fantastic! Great story, great dialogs, great graphics! I'm waiting for the sequel

Finished the game just a moment ago. I wish to play the second game, just to see the resolution.

The story needed more hints that Rabokk is watched (and give more clues about Torg's nature) and I apologies if I sound harsh, but the voice acting was horrible. At points, the characters didn't even pronounce words properly (realm for example). Not to mention the lack of emotion.

But otherwise, I liked the game. The puzzles sort of made sense, although there is the occasional problem of pixel-hunting and visiting certain locations for no reason but to pick up something you'll only need later (like the mug). Oh, and it was very annoying that you always had to go trough the market or the avenue to reach a place on the map.

Either way, I kind of liked the art, the story and setting. This is the first game that I played that treated sexuality and nudity with some maturity. That's a big achievement.

I apologize that some replies do not get instantly displayed. There seems to be a slight error in the forum so that they show up only after a certain number of replies...

As soon as I will have more movement here it is possible, that it will move towards another forum structure.

In any case I am happy to get more visitors lately. I know that ASF Part 1 is not absolutely perfect, but as it was mentioned, it was the prototype of a sexually and erotically matured adventure game.

I got a new studio micro and am getting contacts to better voice actors. About the voices: Some did complain about the bizarre accents others found it an interesting addition to the scenery. In any case I believe I have to do something there.

As soon as I have all three parts of the game ready, I plan to glue them togehter to a directors cut and polish up the whole game series. But we are talking about some years here...

I can take occasionally funny accent or deliberate mispronunciation. But as someone who was around people studying English, I know that most of the cases it is simple mispronunciation (the "ea" in "realm" is one sound, not re-alm). So there is atmospheric voice acting and there is just bad pronunciation. Sorry, but that's it if it is that.

A better case of fictional logistics if characters would have pronounced certain words more accordance to the naming conventions. Like "k"s as like in Rabokk's name, sometimes deliberately making "z" sounds instead of "s"-es, etc. Generally making the Ulgeltz sound a bit harsher in language than general (while the light people would use more softer sounds and words). You can also do this by word selection, favoring words with "harder", more vibrating sounds. However, to give concrete examples, I would have to see English's pronunciation table and method, something that I would have to research.

However, if you are on a limited budget and you're getting voice actors out of kindness/favor/for fun, I personally think that such an idea should be ignored for the sake of getting more emotions out of the voice-work as it is a tricky thing to pull off and would a lot of practice to get right.

Yes it is indeed an idea.

But as you probably recognized there is no budget.
The voice acting was done by friends of mine. I had to ask my ex girlfriend to play the role of Groth because I couldn't easily get any other women to talk the sex related parts. She had a Russian accent...

Some other parts were talked by an Austrian girl who voluntatily helped me because I tested her games.

Single sentences were done by people from the German LARP scene who took two minutes of their time to speak three sentences into the micro.

Much was done by myself and I'm from French speaking Swizerland. Basically I use this system. I make them talk every sentence three times and use the best recording. They get informed about emotions, roles, get pictures of the characters etc. But they are not professionists and have limited patience and time. In order to get really good voices you have to be very picky here and not use what you get.

I was already happy to find people who helped me out.

Of course, I understand the limitations. That can't be helped really.

However, would it be possible to disable the voice-overs in the next game? Optionally at least? I apologize for harping on this, but at certain points of the game I turned off my speakers just so I didn't have to listen to the voice-work (and just reading what was written instead). I've never, ever done that before.

Yes, Ok that can be easily added. In my next game release the voice over will be toggled by pressing the key "V" for voice.

However I believe I already made some quality steps...

Could you test one of the Earl Bobby games and tell me if the voices are terrible aswell?

The new version of "A Second Face - The Eye of Geltz is watching Us" is released (Torrero Edition v. 1.6).
It is available at the main download and will update automatically on the mirrors after some time...

It includes a full Spanish translation.

The translation was done by Cireja and Ptraci and we worked about a year together for this.
Since both are working as translators in real life I believe this translation might carry a lot of quality.

Apart from that, additional changes and fixes were made, that can be seen at the beginning of this post in the changelog.

Hello Mr. Le Woltaire, thank you for your work on your games. A Second Face is especially noticed by the community that plays independently developed games, and it is mentioned quite often in lists around the internet of good, free games. I am highly anticipating any news on your work for the sequel. Some people are worried because there has not been an update to your journal since Jule 2010 for 'May Sunlight Be With You'. It is likely because you have been working on other projects, such as the Earl Bobby series. We know that you care about your stories as much as we do, but we hope that you are not discouraged by things like the relative quiet of this forum. Your works do receive attention, even though that attention may be silent.
