According to the reviews and specs the ATi X1800 series is supposed to support 4K x 4K textures. However I still cannot get the internal resolutions to run above just plain high. Is there anyone with a X1800 that has been able to run very high textures in the OpenGL2 plugin?

I have a X1800 too, and I know of one game, Silent Hill 3, that can use 4096*4096 texture, and it work fine; but with the plugin it crash and says "No buffer available"

But, I noticed one thing: if I select "Framebuffer object", it don't crash, I can hear everything in the game/bios, but I just have a grey screen..

I have the same situation with X1600.
Hopefully, some solution will be found soon.

You only can hope for a fixed ATI driver

I was just messing with this the other day to test whether the X1X00 cards really had 4K texture support. I wrote a quick little OGL program that drew a plane and textured it with a 4096x4096 texture and it worked fine on a X1800 in OpenGL. So it looks like the base support is there.

I wonder if it's the render to texture functionality or some of the framebuffer manipulation that has problems with the large size textures. All of that's above my head though.

if you really want to do a test, you not have to create and use a 4k texture, but you have to create a 4k "offscreen buffer" (pbuffer or FBO with 4096x4096 size, 32 bit color depth + attached 16 bit ZBuffer of the same size)...

It seems the Very High X res / Ultra High Y res settings are working as of today with the catalyst 6.4 drivers! It's kinda buggy still, however.

Just to clarify the 'buggy' part, the best way I can explain it is a "flicker" to the left when using the Very High X resolution, like a thin vertical strip of black that flickers between the image and back.

using the Ultra High Y Resolution seemed to work fine.

if it is a thin line on the border of the screen (doesn't matter if it's on the left/right/top/bottom), then it is propably no real bug, but artifacts from full screen filtering/full screen shaders.

You can fix such flickering lines by increasing the "flicker fix border" in the plugin config.
